Ammodo has announced the first 23 recipients of the Ammodo Architecture Award. This annual international prize is a new initiative to advance socially and ecologically responsible architecture.

‘Our new awards hope to catalyse new projects and show architecture’s progress and contribution to contemporary social and ecological challenges,’ says Marleen van Driel, Head of Architecture at Ammodo.

The recipients were selected by an advisory commission consisting of Joumana El Zein Khoury, Andrés Jaque, Anupama Kundoo, Floris Alkemade and Mariam Issoufou. They noted that ‘now is the perfect time to identify projects that truly embody the search for a new future’.

The awardees are recognised in three categories: Social Architecture (two awardees, €150,000 per project), Social Engagement (twelve awardees, €50,000 per project) and Local Scale (nine awardees, €10,000 per project). The recipients hail from eighteen different countries all across the globe. The prize money helps them support and develop their practice and new projects.
