The NEC study covers research into rare and difficult to treat metastatic or advanced neuroendocrine carcinoma (NECs) of the gastrointestinal system. The study is searching for new treatment methods that can be developed by the mapping of neuroendocrine carcinomas, on the basis of DNA/RNA analysis. Ammodo supports the research as a means of contributing to the realisation of this DNA/RNA analysis in order to improve the treatment methods for NECs.

In the run-up to the celebration of its 100th anniversary (in season 2021-2022 ) The Netherlands Bach Society is performing the complete works of Bach in new concert formats in its series All of Bach, and is allowing digital public access to the concerts. Over a period of ten years, the complete works of Bach (about 1080 works in total) will be performed and recorded in various sequences at special locations at home and abroad. The Netherlands Bach Society works with guest conductors, internationally renowned musicians: international stars in the Bach world are invited to take part. All works by Bach are being made available to the public on the website www.allofbach.com. Ammodo supports the Cello Suites from All of Bach to contribute to the implementation and global accessibility of the music of Bach.

Tulkus 1880 to 2018 is Paola Pivi’s ambitious attempt to create a complete overview of portraits of all tulkus, the reincarnations of Buddhist masters recognized by Tibetan Buddhism. In total, Pivi has collected more than 1,100 portraits, ranging in size from small to monumental prints. The portrayed tulkus are a representation of Tibetan Buddhism and the Bon-religion and their portraits are usually seen in schools and monasteries and honoured in people’s homes. Ammodo supports Tulkus 1880 to 2018 in order to contribute to the construction of this unique cultural and historical project and the development of the artist Paola Pivi.

As part of its continuing programme of events, the Amsterdam Cello Biennale is organising the National Cello Competition for the fourth time in October 2012 and for the fifth time in 2014. It will be held in the Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ in Amsterdam. The fifteen participants in the National Cello Competition will perform for a panel of international solo cellists. Various prizes will be awarded which are intended to stimulate the further development of the young cellists. Ammodo supports the National Cello Competition to contribute to the development of young cellists who show potential to perform at an international level.

Orlando is a new opera production from the Combattimento Consort Amsterdam, based on the eponymous opera by Handel which premiered in 1733. The story is about the unrequited love of army commander Orlando whose heartbreak is so extreme that it drives him insane. A magician, Zoroastro, is the only one who can save him. Under the musical direction of Jan-Willem de Vriend and director Eva Buchmann the opera will be staged six times, including once in Poland. Ammodo supports Orlando to contribute to the creation of this new opera production.

Van Gogh Programme

Nuffic supports the internationalisation of higher education and scientific research. In 2014 Nuffic began the management and execution of the Van Gogh Programme. The programme awards scholarships to outstanding Dutch and French researchers working together on a single research project. This can be in any scientific discipline and often involves fundamental research. Ammodo supports the Van Gogh Programme to contribute to the continuation of these exchanges between the Netherlands and France.

Anti-cancer research

Anti-cancer research

The purpose of this project is to develop an additional anti-virus and anti-cancer therapy from umbilical cord blood. Along with the unrelated cord blood transplant this should ensure a stronger defense against viruses and cancer. The research is being conducted by the research group “Children’s Medical Stem Cell Transplantation Programme” at the Wilhelmina Children’s Hospital, which is part of University Medical Center Utrecht. Ammodo supports this project to contribute to research that aims to improve the survival chances of children suffering from serious cancers.

The exhibition Seurat. Master of Pointillism presents the work of the French artist Georges Pierre Seurat (1859-1891). The exhibition includes 23 of his paintings and 24 of his drawings presented in the context of French symbolism. It includes key works such as Le Cirque en Le Chahut and, with more than 40 pieces on loan, is the first major retrospective of the French artist in the Netherlands. Ammodo supports Seurat. Master of Pointillism to contribute to the realisation of this unique exhibition.

Songs & Poems

The Amsterdam Sinfonietta, with its 22 musicians, is a large and prominent string ensemble without a conductor. For the programme Songs & Poems the Amsterdam Sinfonietta commissioned composer David Matthews to edit twelve songs for baritone and string orchestra. The ensemble performed these new versions of songs originally written by Johannes Brahms, Franz Schubert and Hugo Wolf amongst others, together with baritone Thomas Hampson. Songs & Poems developed into a concert programme in which Song is central and Poetry also plays a role. Ammodo supported Songs & Poems to contribute to the realization of this concert programme and the development of the composer David Matthews.

In 2013 the Concertgebouw organizes an anniversary series with each month being devoted to one decade in the past 125 years. Alongside these twelve chronological concerts a fringe programme will also take place. Ammodo is supporting two contemporary concerts as part of this series to be performed in the Great Hall: Threepenny Opera by Kurt Weill and Spring Symphony by Benjamin Britten. The support is intended to contribute to two special pieces of music from the 30s and 40s, performed in the Concertgebouw.

The RSV Project is a multicenter clinical trial which will be conducted among children who have contracted pneumonia due to infection by the RS virus (Respiratory Syncytial virus or RSV) and who therefore need artificial ventilation in a pediatric intensive care unit (pediatric ICU). Through the RSV Project we hope to reach a better understanding of the effects of excessive moisture and oedema in children and to research ideal moisture policies. The intended results of the RSV Project will lead to guidelines for optimal moisture balance for children with RSV pneumonia with the aim of shortening the duration of ventilation and length of stay in the ICU. Ammodo supports the RSV Project in order to optimize the method of treatment of RSV pneumonia.

The University of Groningen is initiating research entitled Before Menelaus: Social Change in Early Mycenaean Ayios Vasilios. Since 2009 its archaeologists have been investigating the area of Ayios Vasilios in Greece. They have identified this area as the location of the palace of the Mycenaean Laconia, a historic region of Greek antiquity. One of the discoveries is an old cemetery from the time of the first construction phase of the complex. By supporting this research Ammodo aims to contribute to the gaining of a better understanding of the early phases of the Mycenaean period (circa 1700 to 1500 B.C.) and the unlocking of this cultural heritage.

Anatomical Theatre: ‘Theatre of Life and Death’

Museum Boerhaave owns a replica of the Leiden Anatomical Theatre that opened in 1597. Public dissections were held here and rarities such as skeletons, mummies and Roman antiquities were displayed. Under the direction of curator Tim Huisman, who graduated from Leiden University in 2009 having written his thesis on the history of the Anatomical Theatre, the original function of the Anatomical Theatre is being restored. As an introduction to the collection of Museum Boerhaave, the Anatomical Theatre uses holographic techniques to allow the public to experience what an anatomy lesson would have been like. Ammodo supports the Anatomical Theatre: Theatre of Life and Death to contribute to the opening up of the historical scientific collection of Museum Boerhaave through contemporary techniques.

The Grachtenfestival Amsterdam is a classical music festival that takes place annually in various locations along or on Amsterdam’s famous canals. Three special concerts will be performed during the Grachtenfestival 2012: the new opera production Nozze don cosi, a concert by the International Youth Symphony Orchestra Westphalia and a concert by the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw together with Twogether and Dr. Lonnie Smith. Ammodo supports the Grachtenfestival in order to contribute to the development of the young musical talent involved and the quality of the Grachtenfestival itself.

AAA is an interdisciplinary programme series initiated by the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra who wish to build a bridge between the public and contemporary music by collaborating with other cultural institutions in Amsterdam. Each edition of the AAA has a central theme that is then interpreted and discussed by the various institutions. Debates are organised, films screened and visual presentations are given. Ammodo supports AAA to contribute to the creation and quality assurance of the contemporary music repertoire.

In the Netherlands 4-7% of children have asthma. In some cases, an asthma attack can develop that is potentially life-threatening and results in children needing to be admitted to an intensive care unit (ICU). The Asthma Project seeks to develop a programme aimed at prevention of asthma attacks and to establish a dosing schedule for the drug Salbutamol which has a scientific basis. The Asthma Project is a multicenter clinical trial. This furthers the cooperation of the various child IC departments in the Netherlands. Ammodo supports the Asthma Project to encourage research into the treatment of asthma in children.

The Heart Center in Leiden, which is part of the Leiden University Medical Center, is launching an investigation into the frequently occurring cardiac arrhythmia atrial fibrillation. In this project, the therapeutic potential of human chymal stem cells which have been derived from patients with atrial fibrillation is being investigated. Ammodo supports this research in order to contribute to the further research into the treatment of cardiac arrhythmia atrial fibrillation.

The Ius Commune Casebook focuses on the direct effect of EU law on national private law (the Casebook). It is a joint project between the law faculties of Maastricht University and the University of Leuven. The Initiator is Professor W. van Gerven, a former professor at Leuven and former Advocate-General at the European Court of Justice. The research is being led by Professor A.S. Hartkamp and is the work of a partnership of lawyers from different legal systems, from ten different countries. Ammodo supports the Ius Commune Casebook to boost scientific research into the influence of European legal standards on national private law.

The University of Groningen is initiating research entitled Before Menelaus: Social Change in Early Mycenaean Ayios Vasilios. Since 2009 its archaeologists have been investigating the area of Ayios Vasilios in Greece. They have identified this area as the location of the palace of the Mycenaean Laconia, a historic region of Greek antiquity. One of the discoveries is an old cemetery from the time of the first construction phase of the complex. By supporting this research Ammodo aims to contribute to the gaining of a better understanding of the early phases of the Mycenaean period (circa 1700 to 1500 B.C.) and the unlocking of this cultural heritage.

The Heart Center in Leiden, which is part of the Leiden University Medical Center, is launching an investigation into the frequently occurring cardiac arrhythmia atrial fibrillation. In this project, the therapeutic potential of human chymal stem cells which have been derived from patients with atrial fibrillation is being investigated. Ammodo supports this research in order to contribute to the further research into the treatment of cardiac arrhythmia atrial fibrillation.

Anti-cancer research

The purpose of this project is to develop an additional anti-virus and anti-cancer therapy from umbilical cord blood. Along with the unrelated cord blood transplant this should ensure a stronger defense against viruses and cancer. The research is being conducted by the research group “Children’s Medical Stem Cell Transplantation Programme” at the Wilhelmina Children’s Hospital, which is part of University Medical Center Utrecht. Ammodo supports this project to contribute to research that aims to improve the survival chances of children suffering from serious cancers.

Anatomical Theatre: ‘Theatre of Life and Death’

Museum Boerhaave owns a replica of the Leiden Anatomical Theatre that opened in 1597. Public dissections were held here and rarities such as skeletons, mummies and Roman antiquities were displayed. Under the direction of curator Tim Huisman, who graduated from Leiden University in 2009 having written his thesis on the history of the Anatomical Theatre, the original function of the Anatomical Theatre is being restored. As an introduction to the collection of Museum Boerhaave, the Anatomical Theatre uses holographic techniques to allow the public to experience what an anatomy lesson would have been like. Ammodo supports the Anatomical Theatre: Theatre of Life and Death to contribute to the opening up of the historical scientific collection of Museum Boerhaave through contemporary techniques.

Ius Commune Casebook

Ius Commune Casebook

The Ius Commune Casebook focuses on the direct effect of EU law on national private law (the Casebook). It is a joint project between the law faculties of Maastricht University and the University of Leuven. The Initiator is Professor W. van Gerven, a former professor at Leuven and former Advocate-General at the European Court of Justice. The research is being led by Professor A.S. Hartkamp and is the work of a partnership of lawyers from different legal systems, from ten different countries. Ammodo supports the Ius Commune Casebook to boost scientific research into the influence of European legal standards on national private law.
