De Ateliers annually invites twenty talented artists for a two-year residence in which to develop their artistic practice under the best possible circumstances.

In 2020, De Ateliers launched a new Production Fund with support from Ammodo, which artists in residence may use to finance their practice. The fund promotes artistic experiment and gives the artists freedom to develop new ideas.

Centraal Museum organises the first museological solo exhibition of the French artist Pauline Curnier Jardin in The Netherlands. The museum invited her to produce new work. Her new installation, called Adoration, will be presented alongside four existing works in a solo exhibition of the same name.

Ammodo supports the expansion of the Rijksakademie’s public talks programme. By organising talks and debates, the Rijksakademie creates a platform for reflection about contemporary art.

Ammodo supports raising the residents’ personal work budget as well as the financing of costlier and more complex projects through a budget application system.

In 2021, International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) launched a new competition setup, which includes the Envision Competition.

The Envision Competition consists of around fifteen international or world premieres and focuses on the artistic and cinematographic development of upcoming and established filmmakers. It is a platform for creators who go against the stream and whose idiosyncratic films contribute to documentary film art.

The 59th edition of the Venice Biennale takes place in 2022. This edition’s main exhibition is titled The Milk of Dreams, curated by Cecilia Alemani, and investigates the metamorphosis of the body and how technology changes our definition of humanity.

Ammodo supports several internationally renowned artists to create new work for The Milk of Dreams. The selected artists are Dora Budor, Giulia Cenci, Gabriel Chaile, Mire Lee, Delcy Morelos, Precious Okoyomon and Alexandra Pirici.

Contemporary art centre De Appel in Amsterdam presents multiple exhibitions per year. 1994 saw the launch of its Curatorial Programme, aimed at providing upcoming curators with the skills needed to create excellent art exhibitions.

Ammodo supported De Appel’s Curatorial Programme between 2013 and 2019. This support has been continued for the period 2022-2024, in which the programme will be enriched with new elements.

In 2023, De Ateliers opens Woonhuis, a new experimental exhibition space for both current participants and alumni to present their work.

De Ateliers will also commission site-specific works and there will be readings, screenings and events.

Since 2015, the Eye Art & Film Prize is awarded annually to an artist working on the border between art and film. The winner receives a monetary prize to create new work and will be part of an exhibition at Eye.

Previous winners were Hito Steyerl (2015), Ben Rivers (2016), Wang Bing (2017), Francis Alÿs (2018), Meriem Bennani (2019), Kahlil Joseph (2020), Karrabing Film Collective (2021) and Saodat Ismailova (2022).

Ammodo supports the alumni network of the artist residency. By keeping former artists in residence involved with public programmes and by providing technical facilities and studio space, the Rijksakademie creates a valuable and lasting community of artists.

Garden of Scars is the first solo exhibition in the Netherlands by Ghanese artist Ibrahim Mahama. For Amsterdam’s Oude Kerk, he creates an installation of around 800 memorial stones, consisting of casts of the church’s tombstones as well as pieces of floor from Fort Elmina in Ghana, a hub of trans-Atlantic slave trade.

In doing so, he connects the family histories of merchants, captains and mayors buried in the Oude Kerk to those of enslaved Africans.

Shooting Down Babylon is a major retrospective solo exhibition of South African artist Tracey Rose. Her work will be on display at the Zeitz MOCAA in Cape Town, the world’s largest museum for contemporary African art.

For the exhibition, Rose has produced ten new works as part of her Mandela Ball series, in which she explores the complexity and legacy of the post-Apartheid movement and other freedom movements.

In 2021, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen opened their new Depot, an art storage facility which is open to the public and sheds new light on the museum’s collection through additional programming.

In 2022, the Depot will host the new exhibition series Le Miroir Vivant, annually inviting an international artist to make use of the Depot’s exhibition space, collection and expertise to create and present new work. The artist may choose to create something new or combine their work with objects from the collection. Le Miroir Vivant will present four exhibitions in the Depot between 2022 and 2025.

Manifesta is a nomadic biennial of contemporary art taking place in a different European city every other year. The fifteenth edition lands in Barcelona, a city where European, national and regional identities merge. Manifesta will investigate these dynamics through artistic interventions in collaboration with locals.

Ammodo supports the production of new artworks for Manifesta 15.

My Oma is a group exhibition around the symbolic figure of the grandmother and investigates themes such as mobility, affection and conflict.

The exhibition combines existing works and new commissions by various artists with connections to the Global South and marks the end of the six year directorship of curator Sofia Hernández Chong Cuy.

Youth is German artist Anne Imhof’s first solo exhibition in the Netherlands. Using art, architecture, light and sound, Imhof will transform the basement gallery of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam into an uncanny installation.

In Youth, Imhof investigates the dark side of life. She questions dynamics of power and reflects on emotions such as loneliness, greed and the fear of missing out.

The fifteenth edition of documenta takes place in Kassel in 2022, and is curated by Indonesian artist collective ruangrupa. The collective seeks to investigate and reformulate the format of the exhibition and connect it to current art practices.

Ammodo supports the creation of new artworks commissioned by documenta 15 by the following international artists and collectives: Dan Perjovschi, Nest Collective, MADEYOULOOK, OFF Biennial and INLAND.

Eye Film Museum presents film and video art in a state-of-the-art exhibition space, taking up a pioneering role in the international field.

In the period of 2022-2025, Ammodo supports one Eye exhibition per year featuring video art by prominent artists. 2022 will see a showcase of the last three Eye Art & Film Prize winners: Meriem Bennani (2019), Khalil Joseph (2020) and the Karrabing Film Collective (2021).

Manifesta is a nomadic biennial of contemporary art taking place in a different European city every other year. The fourteenth edition lands in Prishtina, Kosovo, and carries the title it matters what worlds world worlds: how to tell stories otherwise. Catherine Nichols was appointed as Creative Mediator.

Prishtina is a rapidly developing city where East meets West. Manifesta wants to induce political and social engagement through art and aims to create a lasting impact on the cultural infrastructure of the city. To achieve this, a permanent contemporary art centre will be realised.

Ammodo supports the production of new artworks for Manifesta 14.
