Talent Support is a new support programme for the participants in the renowned biennial Netherlands Violin Competition, Oskar Back. The finalists in this competition are among the best young violinists in the country. The programme includes artistic development, promoting young violinists at an international level and encouraging the next steps in their career. Ammodo supports Talent Support to contribute to the development of young violinists who show potential to achieve international recognition.

All of Bach – Cellosuites

All of Bach – Cellosuites
AMMODO ✕ The Netherlands Bach Society
2013 - present

In the run-up to the celebration of its 100th anniversary (in season 2021-2022 ) The Netherlands Bach Society is performing the complete works of Bach in new concert formats in its series All of Bach, and is allowing digital public access to the concerts. Over a period of ten years, the complete works of Bach (about 1080 works in total) will be performed and recorded in various sequences at special locations at home and abroad. The Netherlands Bach Society works with guest conductors, internationally renowned musicians: international stars in the Bach world are invited to take part. All works by Bach are being made available to the public on the website www.allofbach.com. Ammodo supports the Cello Suites from All of Bach to contribute to the implementation and global accessibility of the music of Bach.

Three contemporary concerts

The Grachtenfestival Amsterdam is a classical music festival that takes place annually in various locations along or on Amsterdam’s famous canals. Three special concerts will be performed during the Grachtenfestival 2012: the new opera production Nozze don cosi, a concert by the International Youth Symphony Orchestra Westphalia and a concert by the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw together with Twogether and Dr. Lonnie Smith. Ammodo supports the Grachtenfestival in order to contribute to the development of the young musical talent involved and the quality of the Grachtenfestival itself.

AMMODO ✕ Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra
2012 - 2015

AAA is an interdisciplinary programme series initiated by the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra who wish to build a bridge between the public and contemporary music by collaborating with other cultural institutions in Amsterdam. Each edition of the AAA has a central theme that is then interpreted and discussed by the various institutions. Debates are organised, films screened and visual presentations are given. Ammodo supports AAA to contribute to the creation and quality assurance of the contemporary music repertoire.

Clarinet Concerto

Michel van der Aa (1970) developed a fifteen minute solo composition Hysteresis especially for the Clarinet Concerto program of London Sinfonietta. Michel van der Aa is an internationally renowned composer who combines music, technology and film in musical theatre productions. This composition was a co-production with musikFabrik (Germany) and Avanti Chamber Orchestra (Finland). Ammodo supported the Clarinet Concerto in order to stimulate the further development of Michel van Aa.

In 2023, Ammodo released the documentary In Between Realities about the work of Michel van der Aa. Watch it now at ammododocs.org.

AMMODO ✕ The Dutch National Opera
2014 - 2016

The Dutch National Opera organises a development programme for young artists with the potential to be successful in the world of opera. The programme was developed because it became apparent that young opera singers, directors, conductors, theater designers, coaches & repetiteurs and dramatists have difficulty in connecting with professionals in the field after completing their training. The programme includes workshops and a series of six operatic productions were performed in the period 2014-2016. The programme looks to further the development of young talent and to encourage the participants to establish themselves at an international level in the future. Ammodo supports this programme from the National Opera to make a contribution to the development of young opera talent.

After the success of the Masterclass for conductors in 2012 the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra organizes a similar new event on 3 April 2015. The Masterclass for conductors takes place under the guidance of conductor Valery Gergiev and is specifically designed for three talented young conductors. It allows the participating conductors the opportunity to work with a world renowned orchestra under the guidance of an experienced conductor. Ammodo supports the Masterclass for conductors to contribute to the development of talented young conductors.

As part of its continuing programme of events, the Amsterdam Cello Biennale is organising the National Cello Competition for the fourth time in October 2012 and for the fifth time in 2014. It will be held in the Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ in Amsterdam. The fifteen participants in the National Cello Competition will perform for a panel of international solo cellists. Various prizes will be awarded which are intended to stimulate the further development of the young cellists. Ammodo supports the National Cello Competition to contribute to the development of young cellists who show potential to perform at an international level.

Orlando is a new opera production from the Combattimento Consort Amsterdam, based on the eponymous opera by Handel which premiered in 1733. The story is about the unrequited love of army commander Orlando whose heartbreak is so extreme that it drives him insane. A magician, Zoroastro, is the only one who can save him. Under the musical direction of Jan-Willem de Vriend and director Eva Buchmann the opera will be staged six times, including once in Poland. Ammodo supports Orlando to contribute to the creation of this new opera production.

Festival de Keuze at the Rotterdamse Schouwburg consists of an interdisciplinary theater, dance and performance programme. During the festival leading international productions will be shown, each of which will seek to contribute to relevant developments in the social, cultural, political and economic fields. In the context of this theater festival, Ammodo will be supporting various productions including Life and Times-Nature Theater of Oklahoma (2012), Ghost Road by Fabrice Murgia and LOD (2012), Julia by Christiane Jatahy (2013) and Ibsen in one take by Chong Wang (2013). By supporting Festival de Keuze Ammodo wants to contribute to the development and presentation of international and innovative productions where the connection between the artistic and the social themes is central.

2014

The Amsterdam Sinfonietta, with its 22 musicians, is a large and prominent string ensemble without a conductor. For the programme Songs & Poems the Amsterdam Sinfonietta commissioned composer David Matthews to edit twelve songs for baritone and string orchestra. The ensemble performed these new versions of songs originally written by Johannes Brahms, Franz Schubert and Hugo Wolf amongst others, together with baritone Thomas Hampson. Songs & Poems developed into a concert programme in which Song is central and Poetry also plays a role. Ammodo supported Songs & Poems to contribute to the realization of this concert programme and the development of the composer David Matthews.

In 2013 the Concertgebouw organizes an anniversary series with each month being devoted to one decade in the past 125 years. Alongside these twelve chronological concerts a fringe programme will also take place. Ammodo is supporting two contemporary concerts as part of this series to be performed in the Great Hall: Threepenny Opera by Kurt Weill and Spring Symphony by Benjamin Britten. The support is intended to contribute to two special pieces of music from the 30s and 40s, performed in the Concertgebouw.

The Dutch Harp Competition is part of the Dutch Harp Festival held every other year in Utrecht, first established in 2010. The competition consists of four rounds, and displays both contemporary and classical repertoire, such as Luciano Berio and Handel. During the competition outstanding international harpists compete for the three top prizes. A public prize is also awarded and the winners are offered a Career Development Program. Ammodo supports the Dutch Harp Competition to contribute to the development of talented harpists.
