Mime theatre maker Boukje Schweigman (1974) develops the musical movement performance Erf (“inherit”). The show is performed by local players alongside professional actors. Erf is a play with ritualistic features about intangible legacies, family ties and location history. The substantive point of departure is the origin and belonging of every man to his biological and cultural history which is passed on through the generations and place of origin (touching on the different meanings of the word “erf”. Ammodo supports Erf to contribute to the artistic development of Boukje Schweigman.

In the exhibition Close-Up, EYE Film Museum presents recent film and video works and installations by a new generation of artists working in the Netherlands. The medium of film has undergone a major development in recent years: the relatively young generation explores the boundaries between film, video and visual arts and is no longer tied to a single medium. The exhibition includes work by Melanie Bonajo (1978), Felix Burger (1982), Janis Rafa (1984) and David Verbeek (1980). Ammodo supports Close-Up to contribute to the development of contemporary artists by offering them the opportunity to demonstrate recent work within a museum context where the work can be displayed under optimal conditions at a high technical level.

The exhibition Your light is my life provides an overview of the works from the oeuvre of the Czech artist Kristof Kintera (1973). Kintera makes mechanical sculptures and installations which typically have a humorous and political motif. Kintera developed a box-in-box architecture especially for Kunsthal Rotterdam in which he displays many of his sculptures and installations together in one large gallery space. Ammodo supports Your light is my life as a means of contributing to the visibility and development of Kristof Kintera.

The exhibition A year at the Stedelijk: Tino Sehgal is the first major retrospective of British/German artist Tino Sehgal (1976 ) at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. For each month of the year, one or more of Sehgal’s works or ‘situations’ will be presented at various locations in the museum. For Sehgal, an artwork consists of a live encounter between artwork and viewer. Sehgal creates ‘situations’ within the museum space, in which interpreters enact choreographed actions and occasionally converse with visitors. The exhibition will include the situations This is propaganda (2002), Kiss (2002) and This occupation (2005). Ammodo provides support to A year at the Stedelijk: Tino Sehgal in order to make this unique retrospective possible.

In 2014, 2016 and 2018 TROMP is organising Repertoire Days to take place in Sao Paulo, Moscow and Tokyo. During the Repertoire Days which previously took place in Boston, Shanghai and Amsterdam, participants are offered the opportunity to participate in master classes given by judges and previous award winners such as Dominique Vleeshouwers, Nancy Zeltsman and Emmanuel Séjourné. The master classes are intended for talented percussionists under 30 years old and are a preparation for the percussion competition. Ammodo supports Repertoire Days at new locations to contribute to the development of talented young percussionists.

The David Kweksilber Big Band is a musical ensemble that focuses on experimenting with contemporary music, jazz and improvisation. The band has 26 renowned musicians with backgrounds ranging from classical to jazz improvisation. In both 2014 and 2015 DKBB presents various new compositions. Ammodo supports these new compositions in order to contribute to the development of the David Kweksilber Big Band.

Talent Support is a new support programme for the participants in the renowned biennial Netherlands Violin Competition, Oskar Back. The finalists in this competition are among the best young violinists in the country. The programme includes artistic development, promoting young violinists at an international level and encouraging the next steps in their career. Ammodo supports Talent Support to contribute to the development of young violinists who show potential to achieve international recognition.

Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT) presents the contemporary dance performance Separate Ways, performed by the dancers of NDT 1. The performance consists of two world premieres: Clowns by Hofesh Shechter and Shut Eye from the choreographers Sol León and Paul Lightfoot. It is the first time that Shechter choreographed a piece for the NDT. He wrote the music and designed the costumes for Clowns himself. Ammodo supported Separate Ways as a way of contributing to the development of the NDT dancers and choreographers in question, and thus to the furtherance of contemporary dance.

Under the artistic direction of Lotte de Beer, from 2016-2018, Operafront will each year present an international co-production of new work for small and medium-sized halls. By editing existing operas and applying flexible manufacturing methods Operafront seeks to develop the opera of the future. The first production is an adaptation of Verdi’s La Traviata. The second opera, Caliban, is a new production and the third opera, Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss jr., is an adaptation of new and existing material. Ammodo supports Operafront as a way of contributing to the professional development of Lotte de Beer and the renewal of the opera genre.

In the exhibition Late Rembrandt over 100 works produced in the last phase of Rembrandt’s life are brought together for the first time and displayed in the Philips Hall of the Rijksmuseum. The exhibition of paintings, etchings and drawings follows the life and work of Rembrandt from about 1652 until his death in 1669. It has been put together from museum and private collections throughout Europe and the United States. Highlights of the exhibition include Self-portrait with two circles (Kenwood House, London), Portrait of Jan Six (Six Collection, Amsterdam) and Jacob’s Blessing (Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister, Kassel). Ammodo supports Late Rembrandt to contribute to the realization of this unique exhibition.

Every year Gaudeamus invites five talented composers to participate in the Gaudeamus Academy. The Gaudeamus Academy offers young composers and students of composition the opportunity to produce their own work with several renowned ensembles and also provides the space for developing new work. As Big As The Sky is an opera production from the composer and director Arnoud Noordegraaf, artist Ai Weiwei and writer Adrian Hornsby. The opera is produced by the Barooni Foundation in collaboration with the Holland Festival and performed by Asko | Schönberg and soloists. The story is inspired by the rise of China and the radical changes within that country. It explores the clash between traditional culture, the effects of globalization and the desire for authenticity. As Big As The Sky combines Western contemporary music with traditional Chinese opera, film and visual installations. Ammodo supports As Big As The Sky to contribute to the development of this contemporary opera production.

In 2014, the music theatre ensemble Veenfabriek in collaboration with Muziektheater Transparant (Antwerp), baroque orchestra B’rock (Ghent) and Cappella (Amsterdam) created the production Arthur. Arthur is based on the semi-opera “King Arthur” by Henry Purcell (1659 – 1695), in which theatre, dance and opera come together. The piece memorializes the beginning of World War I and is an ode to love and country. Ammodo supports Arthur to contribute to the creation of this new co-production.

The Dutch National Opera organises a development programme for young artists with the potential to be successful in the world of opera. The programme was developed because it became apparent that young opera singers, directors, conductors, theater designers, coaches & repetiteurs and dramatists have difficulty in connecting with professionals in the field after completing their training. The programme includes workshops and a series of six operatic productions were performed in the period 2014-2016. The programme looks to further the development of young talent and to encourage the participants to establish themselves at an international level in the future. Ammodo supports this programme from the National Opera to make a contribution to the development of young opera talent.

Toneelgroep Stormvogels presents the show De meester en Margarita by the Flemish director Julie Van den Berghe. De meester en Margarita is based on Mikhail Bulgakov’s novel from 1966 of the same name. The company has chosen not to use a conventional reworking of the book for the performance, but to create it’s own new stage adaptation. The aim is to create a contemporary, theatrical rendition of the underlying themes of this famous novel. Ammodo supports De meester en Margarita as a contribution to the artistic development of Julie Van den Berghe and Toneelgroep Stormvogels.

For over twenty years De Appel, through its Curatorial Programme, has offered six future curators from different continents the opportunity to learn the skills that are necessary to becoming a curator. For eight months the participants attend workshops and seminars with tutors and guest lecturers, research case studies, take business trips and meet art professionals. De Appel wants the programme to be closely linked to current events. Therefore, starting in 2013, a project was launched to revise and develop the Curatorial Programme during the following years. Ammodo supports this revision of the Curatorial Programme because the programme contributes to the development of young curators at an international level.

The exhibition The Frick Collection. Treasures from New York is the first major exhibition to be held in the recently renovated Mauritshuis after its reopening in 2014. The exhibition consists of 36 masterpieces including paintings, drawings, sculptures and applied art from the 13th to 19th century, on loan from the Frick Collection in New York. The Frick Collection is the art collection of wealthy American steel magnate Henry Clay Frick (1849-1919). It is the first time that so many works from the collection have been lent for exhibition outside of America. Ammodo supports The Frick Collection. In Paradocs IDFA shows experimental and artistic documentaries. In order to respond to the increase of interdisciplinary practice of visual arts and film, IDFA wants to expand and strengthen the Paradocs video art programme over the coming years. IDFA will do so partly by programming a series in collaboration with Amsterdam Art and the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. This programme will present new work by Sander Breure & Witte van Hulzen, Barbara Visser, Nicolas Provost and Mark Cousins, amongst others. Ammodo supports Paradocs because through this programme IDFA is offering an alternative, high-quality platform for showcasing video art.

ICK Amsterdam focuses on producing dance performances, developing talent and stimulating research in the field of dance practice. Through the Lange lijnen programma ICK Amsterdam created five dance productions, including Etranger (2013), Sopranos (2014) and Extremalism Revisited (2015). The Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ in Amsterdam offers innovative composition commissions to prominent composers from the Netherlands and abroad. Over the space of three cultural seasons two new composition assignments will be granted per season. The World premières takes place in the Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ. By supporting the World Premières series Ammodo aims to contribute to the renewal and development of the repertoire of contemporary music at an international level.

Festival de Keuze at the Rotterdamse Schouwburg consists of an interdisciplinary theater, dance and performance programme. During the festival leading international productions will be shown, each of which will seek to contribute to relevant developments in the social, cultural, political and economic fields. In the context of this theater festival, Ammodo will be supporting various productions including Life and Times-Nature Theater of Oklahoma (2012), Ghost Road by Fabrice Murgia and LOD (2012), Julia by Christiane Jatahy (2013) and Ibsen in one take by Chong Wang (2013). By supporting Festival de Keuze Ammodo wants to contribute to the development and presentation of international and innovative productions where the connection between the artistic and the social themes is central.
