The Book of Water is a chamber music theatre project based on the novella Man in the Holocene by Max Frisch. The work revolves around Geiser, a 73-year-old widower dealing with memory loss.

The adaptation by Michel van der Aa and dramaturg Madelon Kooijman emphasises the continuous rain and flooding isolating Geiser in his house. In this way, The Book of Water becomes a portrait of a man surrounded by erosion: nature’s and his own.

The Book of Water premieres at the Venice Biennial on 19 September 2022. It is playing in several Dutch theatres from 11 to 18 November 2022.
