The Concertgebouw presents a double bill of Malinese music.

First, Malinese ngoni specialist Bassekou Kouyate and his band Ngoni ba play music from their latest album Miri. The ngoni is a small West African string instrument, popularised by Kouyate as he incorporated it in pop, blues and rock music using electric amplification.

Next is a joint performance by Trio Da Kali and the North Sea String Quartet. Trio Da Kali is a Malinese music group consisting of singer Hawa Kassé Mady Diabaté, Mamadou Kouyate (son of Bassekou Kouyate who also plays this evening) and Lassana Diabaté. They play music from their new album Ladilikan, which they recorded together with the American Kronos Quartet. For this concert, the role of Kronos Quartet is taken up by the North Sea String Quartet.
